Empty seats are generally bad news for any business. There’s something uninviting about walking into an empty shop, restaurant, salon or spa, which means that empty seats will often stay empty – even at the London Olympics.
So how can you avoid Empty Seat Syndrome for your Salon or Spa? We’ve compiled some of our favourite tips below.
Facebook, Twitter, Google+… it’s highly likely your clients are already on these sites and, in some cases, talking about your business. Are you there to talk back?
Check out our ’12 Free Tools’ whitepaper, available from www.premiersoftware.co.uk, for tips on the various platforms available and how to get the most out of them.
If you’re using online booking, did you know that you’ve automatically got your very own web app, allowing your clients to book straight from their smart phone no matter what time of day it is or where they are?
Check out our previous post to see details – and we’ll be writing some extra tips to get your clients booking on the move soon, so keep an eye on the blog!
Your clients lives are already hectic – in a lot of cases, that’s exactly why they’re coming to you – so having one less thing to remember is always helpful.
Most spa and salon management software will come with some SMS functionality in built. If you’re using Premier Spa or Premier Style, you can easily set up your system to automatically text appointment reminders directly to your clients, which is proven to reduce ‘no-show’ appointments.
We’ve even recently reduced the cost of text messages to a flat rate of just 4,9 pence per message, making it even more cost effective for your business.
As a general rule of thumb, it’s more cost-effective to retain an existing client than it is to gain a new one, so make sure your clients keep coming back by rewarding their loyalty.
If you’re using software such as Premier Spa or Premier Style, you can easily configure your system to manage loyalty schemes for your clients, allowing them to accrue loyalty points each time they visit your business.
Local searches are becoming much more prominent in Google, as more and more users go mobile. If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve listed your business with Google Places to ensure it appears high up in local search results.
Don’t forget about free online directories, such as Yapps.com – the more places you appear online, the more likely your potential client will find you.
Physical marketing may not be as ‘cool’ as social media these days, but it’s still an important way to ensure that your business name is always in front of your client.
If you’re already a Premier Software client, you can order client tags directly from us. These tags are printed with your clients unique identifier and your own personalised branding, so your client sees your details every time they reach for their keys.

Running any business isn’t easy, and sometimes it feels harder because there’s nobody else to ask for advice. The easiest way to get around this? Find an online group of likeminded people discussing the same problems you’re encountering.
We particularly like the online community at SalonGeek – you’ll quite often find us posting in topics about technology used in spas and salons!
Anything we’ve missed, or a method you’d like to share? We’d love to hear your ideas as well – feel free to leave us a comment below!
