We all have moments where we wish there were more hours in the day and even when you feel like there’s a never-ending list of things to do, all we need is some structure and discipline. How many of you have been distracted – whether it’s by the phone ringing, helping out in the salon or even scrolling through your Facebook news feed – when you’ve had a set of important tasks to complete? Probably a fair few and whilst some of it is our own doing, there are ways to help make the most of your time to get everything ticked off your “to do” list and we’ve compiled the best:

Prioritise Your “To Do” List

Whether you have a business list and a personal one, it’s important to make just the one list and prioritise all of your tasks for the day. No matter how much you have on your plate, your work/life balance doesn’t have to suffer so if that means ‘picking up your dry cleaning’ goes on the same page as doing a ‘stock take’, then that is what you do. Itemising all of your tasks means that you can tick each one off as you go along, giving you a sense of achievement come the end of the day.

Keep a Calendar

Having a yearly calendar which you can look over in a glance will save you so much time in the long run. Note down the dates of monthly meetings, holidays you have booked and any seasonal promotion. Being able to see what’s coming up in the next week, month or quarter allows you to plan ahead and make time for any unexpected things that may crop up.

Stop Procrastinating

As a business owner, your time is precious. No matter how much you may want to chat with your clients for hours after their appointment or listen to weekend plans of your colleagues, you need to be able to focus your time and energy on the tasks at hand. Your “to do” list won’t complete itself if you’re not making the time to work through it. Time management is everything when you’re running your own business, so use a system that works and free more time for yourself.
