Google+ was launched on the 28th of June in a beta, invite-only phase as Googles answer to popular social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.  Three weeks later, it had amassed over 20 million users, and in less than 24 hours, the Google+ iPhone app was the most popular free application in the Apple app store.  So what is it, and why should we be taking notice?
